Blood transfusion is an integral part of the health-care system. Through TNSBTC, the Council supports 102 blood centers in Government hospitals — 47 of them equipped to separate blood into life-saving components.

and the efficient use of every unit collected.

What it costs

Blood and blood components are issued at no cost across all Government hospital blood centers, on a request from the treating doctor.
At Government hospitals

During medical emergencies, a service charge of ₹500 applies for obtaining any blood or blood components from government blood centres

Separated blood components
Whole blood is split into components and given to patients based on what they actually need — making the most of every voluntary donation.
Packed Red Cells
Concentrated red blood cells for anaemia, surgery and blood loss.
Platelets
Help blood clot — vital for dengue, cancer care and bleeding disorders.
Fresh Frozen Plasma
The liquid carrying clotting factors, frozen to preserve and used in trauma.
Cryoprecipitate
A concentrated clotting fraction used for specific bleeding conditions.
