About Us
The Tamil Nadu State Blood Transfusion Council is the State nodal agency for blood transfusion services — safeguarding quality, safety and the move to fully voluntary donation.
History
As per the Supreme Court of India order (1998), every state must establish a governing body to monitor the technical aspects of blood centres.
Tamil Nadu established Tamil Nadu State Blood Transfusion council (TNSBTC) registered under Societies registration Act (Registration. No.79 of 1997).
Health Secretary is the President and Project Director is the Member Secretary.

Policy implementation
Translates national blood policies into State-level action, including the Tamil Nadu State Blood Policy.
Quality
Quality assurance
Manages and monitors the quality of transfusion services across Government and private blood centers and storage centres.
Voluntary
Voluntary Blood Donation
Drives initiatives to maximize voluntary non-remunerated blood donations, aiming to eliminate replacement donation. 1. National Voluntary Blood Donation Day (01st October), 2. World Blood Donors Day (14th June)
Regulation
Regulatory supervision
Recognises and regulates blood centers to ensure compliance with standards — including licensing, reporting, and issuing the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for licensing and renewal of blood centres.
Safety
Safety standards
Ensures testing for Transfusion Transmissible Infections (TTI) and manages haemovigilance protocols for patient safety.
E-RaktKosh
Public stock visibility
Through E-RaktKosh, the public can check group-wise blood stock of Government and private centres on a daily basis.

The State nodal agency

Tamil Nadu State Blood Transfusion council (TNSBTC) has been established which is registered under Societies registration Act (Registration. No.79 of 1997).

To Act as State Nodal Agency for all matter pertaining to Blood Transfusion Services in the state.

Compliance of al mandates / guidelines / directives of National Blood Transfusion Council / Directorate of General Health Services, Government of India.

Recommending No Objection Certificate (NOC) for grant/renewal of all blood centers (Private and Government) to Directorate of Drugs Control.

Organizing World Blood Donor Day (June 14th) and National Voluntary Blood Donation Day (October 1st) events/ functions at state and district level for promoting voluntary blood donation.

E-RaktKosh - A web based monitoring system which helps the public to know the blood stock position (Group wise) of Government and Private Blood Centers on daily basis.
